Tripling With Siblings- Getaway To The Kumaon Hills

Best Plans Are Unplanned

We had only 3-4 days, after that we all had to return to our busy lives so we planned to hit the road and follow the picturesque beauty of the Kumaon hills. From the city of the lake- Nainital to the Jim Corbett Park, famous for the legend of the man-eater, we could have gone to anywhere but we decided to ride the road without a map. These blessed hills have so much to offer. On our unplanned journey, the thirst of losing into the Himalayas took us to Mukteshwar, Jageshwar, and we ended up at Patal Bhuvaneshwar.

“Quite escape to Mukteshwar”

We stopped at Haldwani. After fueling up, we were ready to hit the curves. Just after crossing the Kathgodam railway station, the lush green mountains were all around us. The road began to take few sharp curves. Embracing the nature’s beauty and listening to the good songs, we reached Bhimtal in one hour. Surprisingly the traffic was light. We stopped for some tea and started discussing ‘’where to head next? Fascinated by the roads, we decided to head to Mukteshwar.

Mukteshwar is situated at a distance of 45 km from Bhimtal, famous for the Mukteshwar Dham temple devoted to Lord Shiva. The place offers a magnificent panorama of the Himalayan ranges. We decided to take the Bhowali-Ramgarh route. Roads were well built and the scenic beauty around us was mesmerising. As we were going higher, the view of the snow-capped Himalayas was getting clear. There were several beautiful points on the way. Each spot was so attractive that we could not resist ourselves from clicking pictures. With every turn, the views were getting picturesque.

After absorbing the serene beauty of the place and taking lots of photos, we had our lunch and thought of heading to Almora. As we were moving amidst the dense oak forest, the sun was losing its heat.By the time we reached Almora, it was nearly sunset.

“Change of Plans- Jageshwar Dham And Patal Bhuvaneshwar”

Plans to visit Munsiyari was dropped due to insufficient time so we decided to take the road to Patal Bhuvaneshwar and head back to home the very same day.

After driving for an hour between the dense oak forest, we were in the valley. The wind suddenly became colder and the forest was so dense that the sun rays could not penetrate to the surface. After few more kilometers, we were driving along the river stream which accompanied us to the foot of the Jageshwar Dham temple. The temple in the valley surrounded by thick oak forest is a calm place, much like a heaven to the people like us, who come from the hectic city life.

We escaped through the valley and again were driving on the bent curves. After 4 hours of driving along the surreal landscape, we reached Patal Bhuvaneshwar.

Astound by the beauty of this hidden treasures, we took some amazing pictures. The quite and serene environment of that place was spellbinding. We went to Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave, which is known to be the home for 33 crore god and goddesses. After coming out of the caves, where sunlight hardly reaches, we had our lunch. We decided to head back home by the same route.

While going back, we stopped about 1-2 km short of Almora to visit the Golu Devta Mandir at Chitai which is a much-revered place of worship for the people of Kumaon. Mom would have killed us had we not brought the prasad from the Golu Devta temple.

Tripling With Siblings- Getaway To The Kumaon Hills-14 After taking the blessing, we got back in the car and decided only to stop for a tea break and to swap the driving duties. Around 9:30 PM, we were at home.

Tripling With Siblings- Getaway To The Kumaon Hills-15 The drive and the undisturbed beauty of the Kumaon Hills left me craving for more. Maybe next time I’ll end up in Munsiyari or Kausani or may be some undefined place. It’s just a matter of time now, I guess!
