It was just subsequent to the development of new state Uttarakhand carved out from Uttar Pradesh, in the recent time, Auli was promoted as a tourist destination. The state is known as "Devbhumi" which means "Land of the Gods" as there are significant pilgrimage destination in this state primarily the 'Char Dham' (Gangotri Yamunotri Kedarnath Badrinath).
